SOCS - Who we are
Our parents’ organisation, which is a Registered Charity, is known as SOCS – ‘Supporters of Castlewood School’ – and was formed not only to raise funds for the school but to foster close links between home and school in a variety of ways. There is a committee who organise events such as Southwater Fete, raffles, fashion shows, Blackberry Fair, quiz evenings but all parents are warmly welcomed to offer help and support in any way.
SOCS is a lively, creative organisation which has made an important contribution to the life of the school, not only in the many items purchased for the school, but also in the support and help they have given at many school events.
We welcome support from all parents and carers.
Our current committee is:
Chairman – Yvonne Hayward
Treasurer – Nicky Redford
SOCS (Supporters Of Castlewood School – PTA) arranges some fun events to raise money for the school. The main fundraising event is the Blackberry Fair in October. This is a very popular event with children and parents alike.

Another popular fundraising event that SOCS run for parents/teachers only is a quiz night usually run in March each year.
In addition to Castlewood only events SOCS also joins with the Southwater School’s PTA to help run a shared schools fireworks event and a summer fair.
In warmer weather (though not always dry weather!) SOCS regularly sells ice-creams on a Friday.
Another popular event SOCS runs (though more a fun event than a fundraiser) is the school disco. Usually in February SOCS arrange 2 discos, one for the Key Stage 1 children and one for the Key Stage 2 children.
Another social event that SOCS runs is the summer picnic on school grounds for children and parents/grandparents (weather permitting) every July to celebrate the end of the school year.
The money that SOCS raise from these and other events is used to buy extras for the school such as leavers presents for Year 6, sports kit, new books. In particular SOCS was very pleased recently to be able to help fund the purchase of two laptop trolleys.
